2:30 AM Revelation

Yes. It's 2:30 AM. Yes, I should be asleep. Yes, I have work I could be doing. BUT, I am being personally productive. I've got a lot going on. I'm stressed. I need an outlet. Cue: My Blog.

I tried to erase this blog after I wrote that sad sad last blog post. (Writing about reality TV? Verbal vomit. I had hit rock bottom.)I was just too tech spazzy to figure out how to do it. So it's hung out and waited for me. Silent. Patient. Non Judgemental. It knew I would be back, I just needed time. I needed it to be the right time.

There was a reason I couldn't figure out how to delete my blog, it wasn't meant to be. I'm at a point where I'm ready to write and I feel like I have plenty to write about. I actually got a craving to write tonight. I tweeted asking if I should start a diary or blog. One of my close friends Sara responded "blog. I want to read your thoughts." That was all I needed. Someone, anyone, at least one, wanted to read what I had to say. And so here we are. My lovely little blog knew I would be back, I just had to be ready. 2:30 AM Revelation: I'm ready. Let's write. Let's love. Let's rock out. Let the journey begin...

"The City" Premiere

Okay, okay. I know there are better things I could be doing with my time than watching mind numbing MTV reality shows but they are my guilty pleasure. Especially now that NYC is involved! I can't figure out what to Blog about but figured this would work for now.

Whitney Port from The Hills has finally made her way to the East Coast via a job at Diane von Furstenberg. Its weird because it reminds me a bit of my life growing up/living here in the city and it also has made so obvious how much editing plays a HUGE part in the show. They definitely fudge locations and time frames to make the show work. I mean I knew they did it on The Hills and Laguna Beach but bc I don't know those areas as well, didn't realize HOW much they did so. And honestly, you could pretty much call this the TV version of The Devil Wears Prada or Everyone Worth Knowing. The opening credits made it look like it was 2PM and Days of Our Lives was on. Cheese-E.

1. Love how Whitney put low lights in her hair to fit in on the East Coast. Obviously we don't have sun here. We are all brunettes. A physical difference that producers are looking to distinguish the 2 coasts perhaps? West Coast = Blonde chicks, East Coast = Brunettes.
- Olivia and Whitney also have the same hair style. Puke.
- everyone in NY wears black ( Whitney has to learn quick because that neon yellow dress was fugly and blinding).
- It was cool to see the offices at DvF. I live about 2 blocks form the building and always wondered what's upstairs. I NEVER see people there though, very strange.

2. Who the eff is Erin? Is she the chick that Kelly Cutrone publicly embarassed and then kicked to the curb? She looks familair.
- I like her hair (cough cough she copied mine cough).
- I also hated her blue spangly beret. Unless you are staring in Fame in the 1980's, it's a no for me.

3. Apparently only the lower 1/3 of the city is inhabited. The downtown girls? The downtown boys? I saw no neighborhoods listed above Chelsea or Grammercy. In reality the Aussie and his model roomie were playing Bball on the courts in Central Park just off the Great Lawn on the Upper East Side (of course they don't list the location for this one though). God forbid anyone committ social suicide by stepping over 23rd street.

4. Olivia Palermo hasn't had this much mainstream exposure since Socialite Rank went dead last Spring. Her dinner party was pretty dead on tho, freaking over place settings and the boy/girl/boy/girl seating arrangement. But she definitely wouldn't have invited Whitney at the last minute ( since she's been planning for months) and an Aussie grunge band member?? Don't think he would get an invite no matter who he was dating. And I really don't think a socialite would be hanging out with an MTV reality "star" nor do I think a socilaite would be seating people at a fashion show, she would be the one seated. It's a bit fishy.

5. By the way, does Whitney really think his invite was transferrable? Bringinig Erin was a BAD idea. First off, she screws up the boy/girl seating arrangement and one of the Art Dealers kids even asked her if she was a hooker. to her face. She'll know better than to crash one of OP's parties in the future. Also pretty sure OP's apt was in Tribeca. And then the Aussie shows up out of nowhere? Slightly rude and REALLY throws off the seating arrangement...AWK-WARD. Also the naked bottle of Veuve was strange to bring, but at least it was something. He's a half step above Justin Bobby ( at least this homeboy didn't wear combat boots to the beach).

6. The Manolo event @ Bergdoff's was pretty hysterical. Watching Olivia describe her Deb Ball and how her first pair of Manolo's that she wore for it were SO comfy (yet she needed 2 pairs?). Yes, Deb Balls do happen. I was supposed to come out ( at The Mayflower Society Annual Ball, not the closet) when I was in High School. Apparently my private High School wasn't premiere enough. That and the fact that it costs about the same amount as a wedding. Spending my afternoons in etiquette classes to prepare was not my cup of tea and spending $50,000 + was not my parents. Alas, no comfy Manolo's needed. I am surprised that those were Whitney's first pair. She's in fashion, no? Wouldn't she have been able to snag some swag somewhere along the line?

7. The crowd outside of Tenjune was right on. People still spill out into the cobblestone street trying to get in. It's ridiculous and I would only hit it up Sunday - Tuesday nights (MAYBE a Wednesday). But its weird because I feel like there are better clubs that they would go to, especially in the Meat Packing District. Im guessing they were going wherever the camera parade was allowed.

8. Kelly Cutrone shut it down. She is the bluntest person. Kind of reminds me of the dad from All in the Family. People with no internal filters make for great TV and I loved her advice to Whitney on not trusting both of the boys ( shouldn't it be "either") and which Dry Cleaners she should use in the same breath. Fabulosity.

9. "There's no polite way to get out of a Taxi." Best line of the night because it's SO true. Trying to get out of a taxi is about as graceful as falling down a flight of stairs, especially if you have to slide across the seat. It's a necessary evil though. There is no way to get to DvF becuase its so far West (Washington Avenue). I mean unless Whitney took the M14 bus, but really, is that going to happen?

In all, I'll watch the show. I don't think its going to be anything great but it will be fun to see NYC on The City. NYC is the best character on this show, hands down. Fabulocity.

The Training Wheels are Off!

Update on my tech advancement...

My Twitter account is up and running @Mizcity: tweeting several times daily, DM'ing, @'ing, and even synched my last.fm "loves" to update on Twitter. I'm finding lots of good tips on how to up my follower #'s, microblogging etiquette, weeding out spammers, etc. It's still a slow start though. I'm not really finding that any of my friends use Twitter (or even know what it is). Being the first of your friends to start on Twitter is kind of like showing up to a party where you only know the host. It's a bit intimidating and if you had just one friend to go to that party with you, it would be so much easier. But I feel like sometimes you just have to swallow that anxiety and insecurity that comes with being the new kid. I find that sometimes knowing everyone at the party can make it difficult to meet new people. I was kind of forced to understand and assimilate into the Twitterverse on my own and I'm happy I did. 85 followers and growing and proud of it!

What I am still struggling with, however, is this blog. I think what I'm writing is kind of run of the mill, boring almost. I still have no niche and that's NOT me. I'm always known for something so it's a bi unsettling. I find myself writing entire entries and deleting them- is this normal? Did anyone else start out with being blog conscience? Maybe I am being too critical. I enjoy reading other people's blogs like Keith's Blog http://drunkenjenesaisquoi.blogspot.com/) and Charlie's Blog (http://www.thisisgoingtobebig.com/). I like hearing about what they're thinking and doing day to day. In the same breath, though, I can't understand why they (or anyone) would want to read mine. Not only do I not know what to write but I don't know how much to write or if I should be sharing the things I'm sharing. Maybe its just me being my harshest critic, maybe it just takes time, maybe I am struggling with writer's block, who knows. I'm going to keep at it though, hoping that I have a breakthrough and either just become more comfortable ( less blog conscious) with the process or get into a writing groove. Still, any advice, tips, or positive reinforcement would be much appreciated (like, how do I rename the URL's above to just read Keith or Charlie so when you click on their names it brings you right to their website?) I really should have paid more attention in Computer Science.

I've got a busy weekend coming up so I should have plenty to blog about.

Thanksgiving Resolutions

So, tonight I was on the phone with my Dad discussing Thanksgiving. We are going to DC to his sister's house...all 25 of us. Yes, I said 25. I'm Irish Catholic though, does that take away some of the shock? I thought so. My Dad is 1 of 6, I'm 1 of 4 ( 3 half brothers), and we have 9 first cousins (ranging 4- 21). Plus the matriarch of our family, Granny and a few significant others thrown in for good measure. It's alot like a scene out of Home Alone when all of the family arrives... kids screaming, lots of food, stuff being spilled everywhere, but best of all lots of laughing. It's a good time when the fam gets together, but as with anything, there are always things to improve upon.

So, before we make that 5 hour drive to DC at the crack of dawn Thursday, I've decided to make some resolutions for Turkey Day 2008:

1. I will not make my Dad stop at every 3 rest stops, telling him I have a small bladder, just so I can fulfill my need for weird people watching. I will cut it down to every 5...people on the Jersey turnpike are like watching bad accidents, I can't NOT look.

2. I will be honest about work. When my extended family makes small talk and asks me how work is going, I'm gonna tell them it sucks and I want out.

3. I am not going to relegate myself to the kitchen with my other female relatives. Cooking with a bottomless glass of wine in hand is nice but watching football with a bottomless glass of wine in hand is better.

4. I am not going to eat ridiculous amounts of appetizers and ruin my appetite. Just say no to 7 layer dip, it's the devil.

5. I'm going to let my little cousins beat me in Ping Pong this year. No more smashing ping pong balls and yelling "who's your cousin!?" Responding "I'm 27" when my aunts and uncles ask me how old I am because I just made their 4 y/o cry is no longer respectable... especially when I work in Child Psychology.

I am bringing this lovely little laptop of mine to keep all (2) of you updated on how my crazy weekend is going...

Good Family Times abound!

Welcome to my FailBlog!!

So I'm new at this tech thing. It only took me about 3 days, 15 attempts, and a ton of angry tweets to get this blog up and running but I'm here, and yes, it's finally a good time.

This is my own failblog of sorts, my training wheels in the world of blogging so please bear with me as I am sure there will be lots of scrapped knees along the way. Any suggestions, feedback, and band aids would be greatly appreciated (as would a hint of validation here and there).

I don't have a strict focus for content at this point so I'm writing about what I know and what I enjoy...Good Times with Good People in a Great City. Good times are easy to find since the simplest of things makes me laugh, good people are everywhere I turn, and well, I'm born and raised in NYC which is, in my opinion, the greatest city in the world!

Some things you may be hearing about along the way: Child psychology (my day job), event planning ( my evening job), my volleyball team ( a wild and talented bunch), music ( the soundtrack of my life), the Mets, my crazy friends and family, and anything else that represents fun.

Live like heaven begins tomorrow!
